Life is about choices. No matter what human behavior you wish to discuss, it is governed by a combination of nature, nurture, and most importantly, your free will.
Nature is what factors you are born with. These may influence you, but they do not control you. You are not a machine, helpless against your programming.
Nurture are those factors from your environment, such as your upbringing, your education, and your friends. These also influence you, but they don't dictate who you are.
Free will is the most important factor because nature and nurture must eventually give way to what you decide. Too many people seek to eradicate free will from the equation, claiming they are helpless to change who they are. They choose the path of victimhood as opposed to responsibility.
We are not machines, coded into a certain mode that we cannot alter. Think a pacifist cannot become a ruthless killer who loves to kill? They can, given the right circumstances and influences. Think someone could never like pizza with anchovies? Given the right circumstances, they could. Almost any of your behaviors, likes/dislikes can be altered (otherwise propaganda, brainwashing, peer pressure, etc. would not exist). Some may take more effort to change and of course, it depends on how much you want to resist or encourage that change.
So, don't live your life as a victim, looking for pity and sympathy. Take control of your life. You may not be the person I would want you to be. I may not be the person you may want me to be. But at least have the courage and pride to stand up and tell the world "I am who I have chosen to be." Not "what my genes made me" or "what my parents made me" or "what my friends made me" or anything else.
Don't throw away your free will for a crutch or an excuse. You are the one who ultimately decides who you want to be.
Very true. I am who I became because of what I chose to do, not because of how I was raised, where I live, etc. I'm surprised to have dreams so big in such an unknown city. Well, maybe semi-known. I don't know. Either way, it's good. I just need a subscription now. Anyone feeling generous?

Entirely true. It is an excruciatingly saddening concern, but unfortunately a growing number of people convince themselves that "free will" does not exist. Of course, the evolutionist perspective only fuels this conclusion what with how we are supposedly products of an impossibly precise accident of natural forces acting entirely at random, and our thoughts are nothing more than the result of chemical reactions in our brains. "Free will" is not only becoming increasingly denied, but so are truth, consciousness, and morals.
That's what is pleasing about this stamp: it makes an important statement that can easily be overlooked. We aren't helpless to our circumstances, we CHOOSE what to do, how to react, and what to believe.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
